Monterey County Futbol Club is a 501c3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible and are treated with great diligence to ensure the funds are spent in such a way as to best fulfill our mission of expanding youth soccer programs throughout Monterey County. Soccer continues to be one of the best and most affordable sports available to youth in the community and is valuable in combating childhood obesity, developing team comraderie, and building life skills important to our youth today.
Our organization uses donations and sponsorships from individuals and businesses in several key areas including the following:
PLAYER SPONSORSHIPS
Up to 25 percent of youth that play on our competitive soccer teams need financial aid in order to meet the financial obligations of the team. Each youth is expected to contribute approximately $100 per season for league fees, referees and field fees. Additionally, uniforms are purchased every two years by the teams at a cost of between $65-$120 per player depending on the extent of equipment needed.
We expect our youth to contribute what they are able to contribute towards the financial needs, but we do not want players to be precluded from playing because they lack the financial resources to do so. Donations directed towards scholarship will help insure that we continue to reach out to all youth
NEW FIELD DEVELOPMENT
MCFC is embarking on several ambitious projects to develop new soccer fields that are well-maintained and focused on soccer. Soccer fields are very sparse in Monterey County and the year-round soccer teams compete for field space with baseball, football, field hockey and lacrosse. The field demands of high level soccer require careful maintenance and control of the fields to keep the fields in pristine playing condition.
Our club is launching its first project during the fall, 2008, which will be the development of a "stadium" field in partnership with the City of Seaside and Cal State University Monterey Bay. This field will be used for training and competitive soccer games for our youth in the fall and spring. It will also be used for several of the University's NCAA soccer matches once it is completed.
Initial estimates for construction of the first field are approximately $600,000-$750,000. Subsequent fields, if they can be built adjacent to this initial field, will be considerably lower in cost. Our future plans will hopefully include adding several additional fields in subsequent years as the land becomes available for use. Donations directed towards field development will be earmarked for this project and subsequent field development projects. MCFC has already received a planning grant for approximately $8,000 from the US Soccer Foundation, and this grant will help to put the initial design and development proposal together this summer.
FIELD MAINTENANCE
MCFC has been very active in the past year in forming partnership relationships with local schools and universities as well as the parks and recreation departments to secure fields and help to actively maintain fields the teams use. Ongoing field maintenance for grass fields is estimated at $20-$25,000 per year, while artificial turf fields run about $5,000 in annual maintenance costs. By partnering with schools wherever possible, maintenance costs can be shared and volunteer labor utilized to help keep the fields in working order. The schools benefit as well in having high quality fields to use for their school sports and physical education programs.
EQUIPMENT & UNIFORMS
MCFC maintains equipment for approximately five fields in Salinas and Monterey for its competitive teams, including goals, corner flags, paint and lining equipment, nets and other miscellaneous items. New equipment is purchased annually and old equipment replaced every three to four years.
Additionally, the uniform costs outlined above for each participating player are approximately $65-$120 every two years. Our Club is very active in supporting the needs of those who cannot afford uniform costs, and donations from corporate sponsors often facilitate the purchase of the team uniforms to the benefit of the youth who cannot afford such costs.
If you or your company is interested in making a donation to MCFC towards one of the specific areas mentioned above, or in making a general donation to be used where most needed, we would be delighted to answer any questions you might have. Corporate banners will also be available as part of the fundraising efforts for the new soccer field in the Seaside area.
